failed experiment.

I woke up early with the urge to try something new. First thought that crossed my mind. Potato printing. I searched the fridge and found a potential victim, a lonely potato. While still in my pjs I gathered all of my supplies. I used : a potato, textile ink, carving tools, cutting mat, ink roller, piece of plexi for spreading ink, and a spatula. After I cut the potato in half, I began to carve with wood carving tools. Bad idea. I ended up taking out a lot of chunks and the tools didn't work as smoothly as I had thought. This is the first attempt.

So that didn't work out. I cut that piece off and drew an outline of a house. Well it turned out looking like a weird arrow. Scratch that as well. What about just printing a square. This one printed out a little better but I still didn't like the results. Here's a tip. Use an xacto knife instead of carving tools. It worked so much better but be careful because it's a little more slippery.

This was the end result which I was not happy with at all. Oh well at least I gave it a try.

The new shop had an amazing first week! I had someone purchase stamps on the first day. AND I received my first wholesale order. That just means I'll have a busy week ahead but it will be worth it once all the stamps are sitting in a little shop in Hong Kong. Hooray! I'm just so excited that people have enjoyed my designs.

The second half of the year has begun! I think it's a perfect time to start over from scratch.

I've spent the last couple of days completely obsessed with making stamps. I would write a tutorial but there are already a ton of them floating around on the web. My collection of 60 stamps on wooden spools is complete! It took me about 3 weeks to finish all of them but I'm happy that I was actually able to make that many. I haven't been able to take a good photograph of them but I'm working on that.

Last week we had a rubber stamp swap on flickr. It was actually a lot of fun to receive stamps made by others. We are planning on doing another swap soon so come join us if you'd like. I made this hand carved stamp to make labels for my new packages to send to my partners.
